1. Bandelier National Monument (located just outside of Los Alamos, New Mexico) contains hundreds of Native American constructions that are supposedly constructed around the time of the abandonment of Chaco Canyon. Any significant historical ties between Bandelier and Chaco are unknown.
2. The central line of the half-moon shaped Pueblo Bonito is intriguingly aligned almost perfectly north and south, and the eastern half of its southern wall is also aligned east/west. Pueblo member Dr. Shelley Valdez states that the cardinal directions are important because "(They) connect people, the seasons, the Sun and Moon's patterns, time, nature, the environment, the cosmos, and ceremonial systems. Observance of the cardinal directions and the Sun essentially ensured life by knowing when it was time to plant, harvest, and hunt for example. Pueblo Bonito is a physical manifestation of these ideas." She basically states that this intricate alignment is the epicenter of Native American culture.
3. I can infer from the photos of Casa Rinconada that this was a particularly important kiva, due to its window and door alignments that are spaced to let light in during the summer/winter solstices and other seasonal changes.
4. From the Quicktime video of Pueblo Bonito, I can infer that this must have been a place that was (at that time) heavily populated, due to the large, numerous structures. I can also infer from reading that this must have been a center of religious practices. The alignment of the pueblo along the canyon wall intrigued me, because this pueblo shows so much about the sun’s path, even though it is right up against the wall.
5. Threatening Rock is a giant rock that was inconveniently located above Pueblo Bonito that had different spiritual and structural defenses built around it to prevent erosion and/or possible collapse.
6. On July 4, 1054, a star exploded creating the supernova known as the Crab Nebula. In my opinion, it looks more like a medieval shoe/boot than a crab. This nebula was believed to have been created on July 4, 1054 because historians found a pictograph in Chaco that looks very similar to the Crab Supernova.
